The Training
The Painting School at the Goetheanum has as the basis of
its curriculum Rudolf Steiner’s indications for a new art of painting:
the training sketches for painters and his colour theory.
After many years researching these indications the painter Gerard Wagner developed
a methodical path of training which is practised in the school. This path
aims to lead the student to a living experience of how “form comes out
of colour”.
In his colour theory Rudolf Steiner brings
colour into a direct relationship to the human being. Colour and soul are intimately
connected. On this basis it is possible to have a science of colour both
as a foundation for understanding the role of colour in therapy and education
and for a modern art of painting.
Watercolour painting forms the main part of the training.
We favour plant-based pigments which have a particular light quality and are
therapeutic through their enlivening effect on the soul.
Other subjects include:
Black and white shaded
drawing. The basic elements of sculpture are taught in the form of clay modelling. The study of Rudolf Steiner's lectures on art and colour.
Throughout the three to four year training the teaching takes place in the
mornings. Students are expected to organise their own practice time in the
afternoon or at weekends.
Our
diploma is accredited by the Art Section of the School of Spiritual Science
at the Goetheanum in Dornach.
It is possible to take a one year or a one term course geared to the needs
of the individual. Visitors are also welcome to join the school for a short period. Foundations can be laid for further practising and research.
The school works in co-operation with the
Art Section and the Medical Section of the
School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum in Dornach.
